Valtera™ is a pre-emergent residual herbicide that offers up to 8 weeks early season control in soybeans and wheat. It knocks out troublesome weeds like Canada fleabane, common ragweed, and waterhemp to get a crop off to a good start.

Technical information

Active ingredient:  Group 14 (flumioxazin)
Rainfast:  Rain required for activation
Treatment area:  One case treats 106 – 160 acres (at 56-85  g/ac. rate)
Application:  Tank-mix with glyphosate and BlackHawk for enhanced control of emerged weeds
Application timing:  Pre-plant or pre-emergent for soybeans – 7 days prior to planting field corn and spring wheat
Tank-mix order:  Valtera, BlackHawk (if used), glyphosate
Notes:  Apply Valtera up to 3 days after planting soybeans, and a minimum of 7 days before planting spring wheat, planting after application requires the use of minimum to zero till drills
PCP #:  29230

Registered crops

  • Field corn
  • Soybeans
  • Wheat

Weeds controlled

  • Canada fleabane
  • Chickweed
  • Common ragweed
  • Dandelion (seedling)
  • Green foxtail (suppression)
  • Kochia
  • Lamb’s-quarters
  • Nightshade
  • Palmer amaranth
  • Pigweeds
  • Volunteer canola – all biotypes (suppression)
  • Waterhemp

Benefits

  • Early season control eliminates broadleaf weed pressure early on in wheat and soybeans
  • Extended control with powerful residual activity provides longer lasting control of trough weeds
  • Resistance management tool that controls glyphosate-resistant weeds
  • Apply in fall or spring (check label for specific crop registrations)
  • Broad-spectrum residual weed control that lasts up to 8 weeks
  • Extended early season control for extra in-crop herbicide flexibility and improves the efficacy of in-crop herbicide applications by having to target fewer, smaller weeds
  • Yield potential is increased through early elimination of weed competition
  • More re-cropping flexibility the following year
  • Tank mixable with most burndown and pre-emergent herbicides (ie. glyphosate and BlackHawk)

Performance tips

  1. Emerged weeds – use with glyphosate
  2. Flushing weeds – residual activity for newly emerging weeds
  3. Emerged crop – Valtera alone can be used up to 3 days post seeding but prior to emergence of registered crops other than wheat
  4. Refer to label or crop guide for rates and use patterns
  5. DO NOT incorporate after application or anytime prior to seeding

Weed control challenge

Early season weeds put serious pressure on young soybean plants, competing with the vulnerable crop for nutrients, moisture and sunlight. And when fields  include tough-to-control pigweed, fleabane, lamb’s-quarters, dandelion and nightshade,  soybeans have to fight that much harder to get off to a strong start.

Nufarm solution

Valtera herbicide knocks out troublesome broadleaf weeds with long-term (up to 8 weeks) residual control in both Roundup Ready and conventional soybeans as well as wheat. Using Valtera (pre-plant or pre-emergent) with a glyphosate burndown provides residual control and  boosts soybean yields. Valtera offers flexibility to plant wheat if cropping plans change.
