“The Nufarm EXCEL Program is an intensive experience designed specifically for assistant superintendents to develop real leadership and development skills,” said Cam Copley, Nufarm’s Golf Segment Lead. “The unique format allows participants to build lasting relationships with their peers and current leaders within the industry to help them take their professions to the next level.”

This year’s event’s education and training sessions included best practices for assuming a leadership role, alternative management for turfgrass and grounds, individual and family financial and retirement planning, and an overview of the US turf technologies market. Participants gathered for an evening of networking and dinner at Wrigley Field Baseball Stadium for a Chicago Cubs vs. Tampa Bay Rays game.

“The Excel program is in its fifth year and has welcomed close to 50 people,” said Matt Brown, Director, Corporate Sales for GCSAA, “It has been a real joy to see the members grow professionally and develop into leaders in the industry.”

A visit to the Chicago Bears Soldier Field gave participants the opportunity to meet with the grounds crew for a special tour of the stadium’s sports turf and look at the facility’s operations, followed by a tour of the Nufarm Alsip, Illinois plant manufacturing golf turf technologies.

Funded by Nufarm and administered by the GCSAA Foundation, EXCEL is a three-year program for assistant superintendents designed to help them develop personally and professionally in the golf course management industry through cross-training, career development, and community leadership. If you are an assistant golf course superintendent, consider applying for the Nufarm US Turf & Ornamental EXCEL Leadership Program through GCSAA! For details and eligibility, visit the link below.
