Calgary, AB – Lentil growers and canola growers in Western Canada have new options for burndown weed control with new herbicide updates from Nufarm Agriculture Inc. ValteraTM is now approved for a fall application prior to seeding lentils (large green and small red types), and CONQUER® is available in 640-acre bulk packaging this spring.

Valtera herbicide now registered for fall application before lentils
“Lentil growers have very few options for effective in-season control,” says Roger Rotariu, Western Marketing Manager with Nufarm Agriculture Inc. “Now they can use Valtera in the fall to manage weeds before they compete with the next lentil crop. The residual activity of Valtera remains working for weeks after spring thaw.”

Valtera (Group 14) is a distinct mode of action that can be used as part of a fall burndown program for residual weed control where lentils will be planted the following crop season. Valtera controls a range of broadleaf weeds including pigweed, lamb’s-quarters, seedling dandelion, kochia and chickweed, and suppression of green foxtail and volunteer canola. Valtera re-activates with moisture to deliver residual control that lasts for four to six weeks in the spring. Valtera is also registered for spring or fall pre-seed burndown and residual control in chickpeas, field peas, soybeans and spring wheat.

“Valtera is great news for growers who need new effective solutions to control problem weeds,” says Rotariu. “And Valtera is very easy to use, is applied with a regular field sprayer and does not need to be incorporated.”

New bulk formulation of CONQUER herbicide available
A convenient new 640-acre drum size of CONQUER herbicide is available for the 2017 season. The bulk drum contains a new pre-formulation of pyraflufen-ethyl + bromoxynil. CONQUER is registered for pre-seed burndown control of tough weeds such as volunteer canola, cleavers and kochia before planting canola.

“Farmers are always looking for efficiencies in their operations, and our new bulk sizing for CONQUER will work perfectly alongside the bulk glyphosate they are also using,” says Rotariu.
