Calgary, AB [April 2, 2019] – Western Canadian growers have a new option for effective, pre-emergent residual weed control before planting pulses this spring, with the addition of field peas, chickpeas and lentils (fall application, small red and large green) to the Fierce label.

Fierce (Group 14 and 15) herbicide provides extended grass and broadleaf weed control as a pre-emergent application with residual activity that lasts up to eight weeks. Fierce manages tough broadleaf weeds including kochia (Group 2-, 4- and glyphosate-resistant biotypes), wild buckwheat, wild mustard (Group 2-resistant biotypes), pigweed (Group 2- and 5-resistant biotypes), and lamb’s-quarters (Group 2- and triazine-resistant biotypes), as well as Group 1- and 2-resistant grassy weeds.

“Adding pulses to the Fierce label is great news for growers,” says Boyd Bergstrom, Country Lead, Canada with Nufarm Agriculture Inc. “Now, there’s another option to manage tough weeds in pulses. Because Fierce provides residual activity, these crops can get off to a strong start without early competition from hard-to-control weeds.”

For pulse crops, Fierce can be applied in the spring as a pre-emergent application in chickpeas and field peas. For farmers looking to get ahead of spring work, they can apply Fierce late in the fall on land that is going to be seeded to lentils, chickpeas or field peas. Fierce is also registered for spring and fall applications in soybeans, field corn and spring wheat. Refer to the updated Fierce label at nufarm.ca for full application details. Farmers can also save $2/acre on Fierce with the 2019 Real Farm Rewards program.
