BlackHawk® pre-seed herbicide enters the heat of the battle with fast, flexible and complete broadleaf weed control ahead of cereals, soybeans and corn.

Technical information

Active ingredients:  Group 14 (pyraflufen-ethyl), Group 4 (2,4-D ester)
Rainfast:  1 hour
Treatment area:  300 mL/acre, one case treats 60 acres, one drum treats 320 acres, one tote treats 1,600 acres (contact local retailer to special order drums and/or totes)
Tank-mix order:  BlackHawk, glyphosate
Notes:  Fall applications can be made until freeze up with no cropping restrictions the following season. In the spring, applications can be made after seeding cereals prior to emergence except for oats (apply a minimum of 7 days prior to seeding). Can be applied up to 3 days after seeding soybeans (ensure soybeans are seeded minimum 1 inch deep). For best results, use higher water volumes for good coverage and contact activity.

  • Wild buckwheat
  • Wild radish

Benefits

  • PROVEN RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT with two non-Group 2 modes of action to target broadleaf weed species
  • COMPLETE CONTROL through systemic and contact activity
  • BETTER PERFORMANCE compared to glyphosate alone for fall or pre-seed burndown
  • Makes in-crop weed control easier and more effective by having only new, small weeds present at time of application
  • Provides broad-spectrum weed control, including excellent control of narrow-leaved hawk’s-beard in the fall and at the 1-2 leaf in spring
  • No surfactant needed when applied with glyphosate

Weed control challenge

Glyphosate alone used to provide an effective burndown option in cereal crops. But the widespread adoption of glyphosate-tolerant canola, and the alarming spread of glyphosate and Group 2-resistant kochia has dramatically reduced the effectiveness of glyphosate-only control programs.

Nufarm solution

BlackHawk contains a Group 14 herbicide (pyraflufen-ethyl) in a pre-formulation with 2,4-D ester. It delivers faster, more complete weed control in a cereal pre‑seed burndown than glyphosate and Group 2 herbicides. With two active ingredients and two modes of action, BlackHawk is an innovative burndown solution that doubles as an effective tool for resistance management.
