Nufarm is excited to announce the launch and first commercial sales of Mainman® insecticide, containing a new unique active ingredient Flonicamid for the New Zealand agriculture market.
Mainman will provide New Zealand horticultural growers an excellent new option to control insect pests in high value potato crops.
Mainman belongs to the Pyridinecarboxamide (Group 29) class of chemistry. It is the only product available in this class in New Zealand and therefore offers an important option for resistance management. It is a novel systemic insecticide with selective activity against hemipterous pests, such as psyllids, aphids and whiteflies, and thysanopterous pests, such as thrips and is effective on all resistant populations including neonicotinoid resistant aphids.
Mainman also provides larvicidal and adulticidal activity mainly via ingestion, rapidly controlling key economic pests. Mainman exhibits excellent translaminar and systemic movement within plants and provides rapid cessation of feeding and long-lasting control.
Mainman is currently registered to provide control of aphids and tomato/potato psyllid in potato crops, with a low use rate of 160g/ha resulting in less active ingredient required per hectare compared to many other insecticides.
Mainman is ideal for integrated pest management (IPM) programmes as it is soft on a wide range of beneficial insects and foraging honey bees.
Ongoing development work from Nufarm will soon deliver additional registrations in more crops and on more pests as the label for this exciting product rapidly expands.
