ENLIST™ COTTON STALK DESTRUCTION WITH DUPLOSAN™ HERBICIDE

Chemical cotton stalk destruction is an effective and efficient means of managing postharvest cotton stalks. All Enlist™ cotton varieties are tolerant to 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and glufosinate herbicides.
The new recommended herbicide from Nufarm for stalk destruction of Enlist cotton stalks is two applications of Duplosan™. Duplosan provides farmers a tool to manage Enlist cotton stalk regrowth and squaring, enabling compliance with the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Boll Weevil Eradication Program standards. The recommendation for using Duplosan herbicide for Enlist cotton stalk destruction may differ from traditional chemical stalk destruction procedures. Recommendations for Duplosan are listed below.

BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES FOR POST-HARVEST COTTON DESTRUCTION
1. When shredding, shred cotton stalks no lower than 6 to 8 inches in height.
2. After shredding or final harvest, wait two weeks or longer for regrowth to occur. A moderate level of regrowth will increase product uptake and performance.
For best results, regrowth should have leaves 1 to 3 inches in diameter and short stems formed with leaves attached.
The graphics to the right illustrate the preferred level of regrowth from both the upper, terminal portion of the plant (T) in the case of a non-shredded, standing stalk management practice and the basal portion of the plant (B) following shredding.
3. Once sufficient regrowth has occurred, apply 32 oz (1 lb/A) of Duplosan with crop oil concentrate at 1% v/v, per label instructions.
4. If new regrowth is visible 2 to 3 weeks after the first application, apply another 32 oz (1 lb/A) of Duplosan with crop oil concentrate at 1% v/v, per label instructions.
5. Cotton stalks should not be shredded within two weeks after application due to reduced translocation to the root and reduced efficacy.
