Community Service Project on the National Mall in honor of National Golf Day 2023

May 17, 2023 – Morrisville, NC – The Nufarm EXCEL Leadership Program joined key golf industry leaders and partners in meeting with congressional leaders on important topics impacting the golf industry in Washington, networking and participating in a community service project at the National Mall in honor of National Golf Day, May 8-10.

On Tuesday, May 9, the Nufarm EXCEL Program participants joined many other volunteer groups on the National Mall for a beautification community service project. Project volunteers mulched the mall’s cherry tree stands; seeded and mowed turf panels; performed landscape bed planting; and sodded, pruned and spruced the German American Friendship Garden and areas around the Sylvan Theater.

On Wednesday, May 10, golf industry leaders and Nufarm EXCEL participants met with their state’s respective seniors and congressional legislative leaders on the Hill to cover key issues in 2023 including:

  • The positive physical and mental health benefits of golfing in support of the PHIT (Personal Health Investment Today) Act
  • Expanding public funding on turfgrass research through the universities and private organizations in the 2023 Farm Bill
  • The importance of H-2B visas for the golf industry with current labor shortage challenges
  • Updating the US tax code to incorporate disaster relief for golf courses

“National Golf Day provided golf industry leaders with the opportunity to meet our elected officials and convey the golf industry’s impact on a state and national level, help to drive the US economy, lead the way in protecting the environment and provide employment opportunities,” said Nufarm Golf Segment Lead Jeff Eldridge. “Nufarm, as a partner for growth, is committed to helping our golf course superintendents lead golf’s future and preserving green space for generations to come.”

During the National Golf Day event, Nufarm recognized and heard speeches from its EXCEL Class of 2023 Graduates at the EXCEL graduation dinner reception on Tuesday, May 9:
