Nufarm UK Limited is one of the World’s principal suppliers of polymerisation control agents for the monomer industry. We are committed to improving the performance of our customers’ processes through a combination of optimal products and expert application knowledge.

We produce our polymerisation inhibitor and retarder products at our UK manufacturing facility at Wyke for supply to many of the major petrochemical companies throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and the Americas.

As well as producing industry standard products, we have a successful Research and Development team that have developed and patented new anti-polymerants. This is enabling Nufarm to provide solutions to polymer problems in a wide range of petrochemical processes. These include retarders and inhibitors for styrenics, together with antioxidants and inhibitors for acrylics, butadiene, ethylene and many more.

Nufarm has a collaboration with a water treatment company to expand our offering and service to our customers. We can now offer full site treatment including water and process chemicals and on-site support.

DNBP

Nufarm manufacture DNBP, the industry standard styrene retarder, at our site in the UK. We are fully registered with REACH in the EU. Our high quality product is available as the pure Technical grade, and as 75 or 70% solutions in ethylbenzene. Our DNBP is used by styrene manufacturers in the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

DNBP-SFR Mixtures

The combination of DNBP plus Tempo stable free radical is the most cost-effective system for many styrene plants. The one-pack product reduces spend on retarder and simplifies logistics and dosing. Different ratios of active ingredients are available and more information can be found in the styrenics section, together with many case histories

Stable Free Radical Inhibitors

Generically known as “Tempos” these molecules have become the industry standard inhibitors for many monomers due to their effectiveness. Nufarm are one of the principal manufacturers of these molecules and we are lead registrants in REACH for 4-Oxo and 4-Hydroxy Tempo. We also produce other Tempo molecules that have specialist applications in polymer inhibition. Our Tempo molecules are available in a range of solvents, dilutions and packaging, please contact us if you would like advice from our technical team regarding the applications of TEMPO molecules.

Green Retarders

Developed as alternatives to DNBP in styrene polymer control, these molecules offer a lower toxicity option. Nufarm has more than 10 years experience of supplying these molecules to the styrene industry and our Technical Service team are available to discuss options with you. More information is contained in the Styrenics information section.

Technical Service

Nufarm is the inventor, manufacturer and supplier of market leading retarder and inhibitor products but we also do much more. All Nufarm customers have access to our Technical Service Team in Bradford.

Our Technical Service group is committed to servicing the business by providing:

  • Advice on product selection and use
  • All necessary supporting data on our products
  • Comprehensive treatment programmes and monitoring systems
  • Storage and dosing systems
  • Support for plant trials at customer sites around the world
  • Ongoing technical advice and troubleshooting

Nufarm’s analytical laboratory is extremely well equipped to analyse residual inhibitor in process streams, identify foulant and carry out process efficacy testing for our customers. In addition to the standard GC, LC etc, we have pyrolysis Mass Spec, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Ion Chromatohgraphy, GPC and ICP for metals analysis. We have partnerships with local universities that allows us access to other more specialist equipment as needed. We have built a pilot plant to allow better simulation of plant injections and process equipment

Not yet a Nufarm customer? Do you have fouling issues in your plant? Why not contact us for a no-obligation discussion to see if our experienced technical team can offer any assistance. We have a strong record of developing successful, innovative and cost effective solutions. These can be off the shelf products, bespoke formulations or even just advice if no new product is needed. To discuss please use the contacts at the bottom of the page.

Manufacturing

All of our manufacturing and formulation takes place at the Wyke facilty in the UK. The site is registered to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. We have manufactured DNBP at Wyke since 1947, firstly as a herbicide and then since the mid-1980s as a polymerisation inhibitor. At the start of 2018 the plant was re-vamped and several new vessels and a new control system was added. TEMPOs have been manufactured here since the mid 1990s.

All our products are analyzed before leaving the site by our QC department and Nufarm has a dedicated registration team dealing with regulatory issues, including REACH. All our retarder and inhibitor products will be supported through the REACH registration process.

Supply Chain

Nufarm have supplied polymerization inhibitors and retarders to to the monomer industry for the last 30 years. We are very proud to state that we have never let a customer down, we have always delivered in time. Our first class Supply Chain team organize deliveries to all corners of the world by road, rail, sea and air. Inhibitor products are normally supplied in bulk isotanks, 1cuM intermediate bulk containers, drums or kegs. Our reliability is such that many of the major producers trust us to be sole suppliers of their inhibitor needs.
